4th Annual Chris LeDoux Spurs and Spikes Memorial Golf Tournament
The Sheridan WYO Rodeo would like to announce that the 4th Annual Chris LeDoux Spurs and Spikes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held July 9th and 10th, 2010 at the Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan WY. The “Spurs and Spikes” will be held in conjunction with the Sheridan WYO Rodeo as part of the PRCA rodeo’s ten-day celebration. “We feel very privileged to be part of a tournament honoring such a great legend in addition to being part of the rich history and tradition of the WYO Rodeo” stated Jenny McKenzie, event coordinator, Powder Horn Golf Club.
The tournament will be open to the public with a limited number of teams allowed. The Spurs and Spikes Golf Tournament began in the summer of 2007 as a fund raiser for the Chris LeDoux Memorial Foundation. The foundation was established by the LeDoux family after the passing of the cowboy, singer-song writer and PRCA World Champion Bareback Rider, Chris LeDoux. Money raised through the golf tournament goes to the Chris LeDoux Memorial Foundation, which is currently building the Chris LeDoux Memorial Park in Kaycee, WY with a life size plus ¼ “Good Ride Cowboy” bronze sculpture by D. Michael Thomas. The bronze is scheduled to be unveiled summer of 2010 in Kaycee. Along with construction of the park, the foundation directs funds to other worthy charities, such as the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund that provides financial assistance to injured PRCA contestants. The tournament will also raise funds for scholarships for FFA (Future Farmers of America) Chapters from the surrounding area. Special invitations to country music celebrities and rodeo personalities are already in the works.
The two day event will include a practice round, BBQ, auction and live entertainment on Friday, in addition to the four person scramble golf tournament on Saturday. “It is with Chris’s love of golf and his memory to guide us, that we continue to build on the ‘Spurs and Spikes’ tournament,” says Peggy LeDoux, “We are thrilled to bring Chris’s tournament to Sheridan and the Powder Horn. We look forward to the 2010 tournament with great enthusiasm.”
“This will be a great weekend to be in Sheridan. Having this tournament in Sheridan is like having it come home, since the Sheridan WYO Rodeo was a favorite of Chris’s during his rodeo career” stated rodeo board member Vicki Kane. This year will mark the 80th annual Sheridan WYO Rodeo. |
