Flag carriers are an important part of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo. They perform horsemanship at the highest level, while carrying sponsorship flags on all four nights of the rodeo.
The Sheridan WYO Rodeo Wranglers formalized their organization in 2015 and now recruit between 40-45 women and men to carry sponsorship flags each year.
Practice runs from October – July every year, with once monthly practices in October, November, February and March, and weekly practices from March through the start of the WYO Rodeo in July.
Winter practices happen at the Sheridan College Agri Park. Typically in May, as weather allows, we begin practicing outdoors at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.
WYO Rodeo Wranglers Volunteer Criteria
While all ages may try out for the Wranglers, we prefer that all flag carriers be at least 12 years old. All flag carriers must meet the physical requirements of carrying a large flag, while riding horseback.
Every volunteer WYO Rodeo Wrangler must provide their own horse, tack and transportation to and from practices and the rodeo each night.
This is a big time commitment, and we sincerely appreciate the effort every WYO Rodeo Wrangler makes each year.
